Sinopse

Os objectos culturais de descobertas arqueológicas são frequentemente quebrados e fracturados numa grande quantidade de fragmentos, e os arqueólogos são confrontados com quebra-cabeças em 3D quando remontam os objectos fracturados. A digitalização dos fragmentos e a remontagem dos objectos 3D correspondentes é virtualmente uma solução elegante (e por vezes a única). Durante a montagem, é essencial uma interacção eficiente do utilizador para a complexa tarefa de orientar ou posicionar dois objectos 3D um em relação ao outro. Ainda que existam métodos de montagem totalmente automáticos baseados na combinação de pares, estes falham quando alguns fragmentos são defeituosos ou faltam. Consequentemente, é sempre necessária uma interacção eficiente do utilizador, para além das técnicas automáticas. A interface de utilizador tangível ArcheoTUI permite a montagem eficiente dos fragmentos digitalizados em 3D de objectos arqueológicos fracturados. A ideia chave é utilizar adereços tangíveis para a manipulação dos fragmentos virtuais. Em cada mão, o utilizador manipula um prumo com rastreio electromagnético, e as traduções e rotações são directamente mapeadas para os fragmentos virtuais correspondentes no visor. Para cada mão, um pedal correspondente é utilizado para apertar os movimentos das mãos. Assim, as mãos do utilizador podem ser reposicionadas, ou o utilizador pode ser comutado.
